What We Believe

God

We Believe the God of the Judeo-Christian Bible really exists.  He is self-existent, the creator of the universe, and by nature an eternal, all-knowing, all-powerful, omnipresent spirit, and the source of all truth. God exists in three persons: the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit.  God revealed Himself as the Father in both Old and New Testaments. God adopts believers in Jesus Christ into a relationship with Him as their Father. Through Christ, believers have the privilege of being heirs to God’s glory.

Jesus

We Believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God and He is God. He is coequal with the Father and Holy Spirit. He is the creator and sustainer of the universe. Jesus came to earth in the flesh being born of a virgin and lived a sinless human life.  He offered His life as the perfect sacrifice to atone for the sins of all people by dying on the cross. He arose from the grave after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory to reign at the right hand of God, the Father, and will return again at the end of time to claim His followers and return to heaven.

Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is coequal with the Father and the Son as God. He is present in the world to make all people convicted of sin aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He inspired and guided the Prophets and Apostles with the revelation of Scripture. He also dwells in every Christian at the moment of water baptism when one is “born of water and the Spirit.” He provides Christians with power to live and grow in Christlikeness, to understand spiritual truth and guidance, discern God’s Word in our hearts, and serve the church. He has inspired the writing of the Bible and His work within believers never contradicts what has been written.  He intercedes for faithful followers of Christ with the Father and has been left as a guarantee of our inheritance. As Christians, we seek to live under the Holy Spirit’s guidance daily.

Supportive Scriptures: Genesis 1:1-2; Psalm 51:10-12; John 14:16-17, 16:7-13; Acts 1:8; Romans 5:5, 8:27; I Corinthians 2:12; 3:16; 2 Corinthians 3:17; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 1:13-14, 5:18, 6:17-18; 2 Peter 1:19-21

God's Word

We believe the Bible is The Word of God. It was written by human authors, under supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit or “God Breathed” (2 Timothy 3:16), and reveals the being, nature, and character of God and His creation. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs, teaching, and practice.  What is clear from these scriptures is that we as believers are called to not only read and understand God’s Word in the Bible but allow God’s Word to live within and through us as we submit in obedience to Him.

Additional Supportive Scriptures: Psalms 12:6, 119:105, 130, 160; Proverbs 30:5-6; 2 Timothy 1:13, 3:16-17; James 1:21-22; 2 Peter 1:19-21

Salvation

Salvation is God’s free gift to us, but we must accept it.  We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works.  Salvation can only be realized through faith by trusting and obeying Jesus Christ as God’s offer of grace to us.  When we turn from our self-ruled life to Jesus through faith, confession, repentance, and baptism, we are saved.  Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ as Lord of their life.  This is evidenced by a believer’s transformation to a faithful life of obedience to God including a growing personal relationship with God and a steadfast commitment to His service.
